The CPN (UML) has decided to hold its 8th general convention from November 16 to 20 in Kathmandu.

The central committee meeting of the UML chaired by newly appointed general secretary Jhal Nath Khanal on Sunday set the date for the general convention, which will elect new leadership of the party and resolve the policy issues.

The marathon meeting that ran for nearly three weeks has decided to start the restructuring of party organisation from the grassroots level and launch public mobilisation programmes to regain the party’s lost influence.

The meeting has also divided the responsibilities for senior leaders. As per the new arrangement, former general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal will look after the foreign department, which was previously held by Khanal, while Amrit Bohara has been appointed as the head of the organisation department.

Similarly, K.P Sharma Oli will look after the schooling department while Bam Dev Gautam has been appointed as the in-charge of western region. Ishwor Pokharel and Bishnu Poudel have been appointed as the chief of publicity department and parliamentary department respectively while Rajendra Shrestha has been nominated as the valley in-charge of the party
